Top 5 Best Beaches in Algarve

Algarve is Portugal’s southernmost area, bound to the west and south by the Atlantic ocean. This region distinguishes itself by its quantity and variety of beaches and its perfect climate to enjoy holidays in the sun. Here is our 5 favorite beaches in Algarve!

Ponte da Piedade, Lagos

Ponta da Piedade is known for its cliffs carved into the rock, that shelters natural tunnels and secret caves. The gold color of these cliffs contrasts with the green and turquoise of the ocean, creating a magnificient view. To visit the caves, you need to take a small boat that is anchored at the bottom of the 182 steps. You can also use a kayak or a paddle board and make your way into the caves from the Batata beach.

Praia do Gigi, Quinta do lago

This is one of Carlos’ favorite spots in Portugal. If you enjoy tranquility, this beach is made for you. You will have to walk accross the bridge over the protected river of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, where Claudia fished the clams in the fifth episode of the Portugal Gourmand webserie.  The only restaurant you can find on this beach is the fish restaurant Gigi, frequented by famous people such as football player Ronaldo. Reservations are mandatory and it is quite expensive for a beach restaurant, but the experience is extraordinary. The other option, 2 passos, is a 20 minutes walk away from the beach. It offers an incredible view of the ocean.

Praia da Marinha, Lagoa

The Praia da Marinha beach offers the perfect mix of golden cliffs, fine sand and turquoise water.

Praia da Falésia, Albufeira

Praia da Falésia is a very popular 3km-long beach during summer time. It is located close to the cities of Albufeira and Olhos de Agua.

Praia do Camillo

A sumptuous sand beach located close to Ponte da Piedade (see above). The perfect location to rest or eat a bite after your excursion on the rocks.
